Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center is the only hospital in Southern New Jersey to provide transplant services. The Lourdes Regional Organ Transplantation Center offers kidney, pancreas and liver transplantation.
Lourdes has performed kidney transplants since 1974. The program expanded in 1995 when it became the first in New Jersey to perform a kidney-pancreas transplant. In 2000, the Lourdes program continued to grow with the introduction of liver transplantation.
Immunosuppressive drugs developed over the years, as well as refined surgical procedures, have led to remarkable improvements in the long-term success of transplantation. |
The center’s specialized services and proven outcomes depend on a first-rate team of highly trained and skilled medical professionals. Transplant surgeons, nephrologists, and hepatologists team with nurses, technicians, dietitians, social workers and other staff to deliver an exceptional level of care and to work to make the life-giving experience of transplant fully positive for each patient, at each stage of care.

The Lourdes center was first in the region to perform a kidney transplant through paired exchange. |

In honor of all organ donors and to raise awareness of the need for organ donors, Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center lights (in green) the statue of the Virgin Mary atop the hospital each time the Lourdes transplant team performs an organ transplant.
The program takes pride in its support of transplant patients and their families. Once patients begin the transplant evaluation process, the interdisciplinary staff provides one-on-one, individualized education and assessment with member of the medical team. The program guides eligible patients through their pre- and post-transplant experience, developing a plan of care specific to their needs.
