Having Your Baby at Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center

We help bring over 1,300 babies into the world each year here at Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center. Our talented, experienced doctors and nurses are highly regarded in their fields of expertise. All of our obstetricians are Board Certified or Board Eligible by the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology or the American Osteopathic Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Our dedicated nursing staff, including many nurses who have been at Lourdes for well over a decade, provide the finest physical and emotional care possible for mother and baby.

Caring for Mom and Baby: One at a Time

At Lourdes, we provide everything to make your special day memorable and comfortable. Our LDR (Labor/Delivery Recovery) rooms allow you to complete the entire birth experience in one room. Our “mother-baby” nurses give you one point of contact for you and your newborn. And, you’ll have the confidence of in-house, 24-hour anesthesiology services and on-site operating suites for cesarean sections.And when you’re ready, we offer liberal family visitation hours and policies so you can introduce your little miracle to his or her new family.

Antenatal Services

Our modern, fully-equipped Antenatal Consultation Unit is capable of handling all of the diagnostic testing you might require during your pregnancy. Ultrasound, amniocentesis, fetal echocardiography, fetal heart rate testing, stress tests, Chorionic Villi Sampling (CVS), and other tests are available as needed. We also provide individual instruction for expectant mothers who have diabetes or other medical conditions requiring specialized information.

Labor, Delivery, Recovery, and Postpartum Care

Special Beginnings at Lourdes provides you and your growing family with everything you will need to make your special day a memorable one. Our LDR (Labor/Delivery/Recovery) rooms allow mothers to complete the entire birth experience in one room. Continuity of care is ensured by our “mother/baby” nurses-the same nurse takes care of you and your infant. This combined mother and infant care provides liberal rooming-in and bonding opportunities for you and your baby. For your physical and emotional well-being, we have private labor rooms equipped with electronic fetal monitors, modern delivery rooms and operating suites for cesarean sections. Plus, for your safety and comfort, in-house anesthesia services are available 24 hours a day.

High-Risk Deliveries

It is a fact. Not every pregnancy is easy and not every delivery goes exactly as planned. And certain factors like age, diabetes, blood pressure or other genetic or physical conditions may increase risk for some mothers.

Intensive Care Nursery

If you give birth at Lourdes or another South Jersey hospital and complications arise, we can treat your baby in the Intensive Care Nursery at Lourdes. Each year, Lourdes’ exceptional medical and nursing staff care for hundreds of newborn infants who require specialized care at birth or just after they are born. Lourdes provides the most advanced medical care available for these fragile infants.

Following Birth

Following the birth of your baby, you will receive private, individualized education sessions with your nurse to ensure that you are completely comfortable with your new role as mother before you leave the hospital.

Our care doesn’t leave you when you leave us. Within 72 hours of discharge, you’ll be contacted at home by one of our mother-baby nurses, who will answer any questions you may have. It’s all part of the care and compassion that we provide to each and every Lourdes Mom.

Visiting

Our family centered maternity services provide liberal visitation hours for siblings and grandparents, and 24-hour visiting privileges in Labor and Delivery for your support person.

After You Go Home

One of our mother-baby nurses will call you at home within 72 hours of your discharge to answer any questions you might have, and we welcome calls from you!

Childbirth Educational Programs

At Lourdes we are proud of our role as a leader by providing family-centered maternity care. To help you and your loved ones with all of the information you need during this special time, we sponsor a wide array of classes and programs, including: Childbirth Education Classes, Successful Breastfeeding, Childbirth Refresher Program, Baby Basics 101, Siblings Are Special, and Infant and Child CPR Classes.

In addition, the Lourdes Wellness Center also offers programs and services that benefit expectant mothers and families.
