Community Outreach

Lourdes cares for patients who walk through its doors, but then it goes beyond — reaching out to those most in need to serve them in their homes, in special programs and clinics, and throughout the community.

Lourdes Health System’s community outreach programs serve children, seniors, the homeless, and the medically underserved. The goal is to ensure that every patient, regardless of ability to pay, has access to services that provide for medical, social, spiritual and emotional needs.

The American Hospital Association recognized Lourdes nationally for these efforts and accomplishments by awarding it the Foster G. McGaw Prize for Excellence in Hospital Community Service. The AHA bestows this distinction—one of the most prestigious national honors in the healthcare field—on an organization that demonstrates a commitment to providing its community with innovative programs and services that expand access to care.

Community Resources

Lourdes Health System recognizes and values the many community organizations throughout the region who help to support those in need of medical, financial, social and spiritual support. We have developed this Resource Guide to assist the community in locating those agencies that provide assistance.

Community Health Needs Assessment and Improvement Plan

The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010 requires nonprofit, tax-exempt hospitals to assess the healthcare needs of their communities every three years and to adopt an implementation strategy to address the needs identified. Each hospital must make its Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA) and Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP) widely available to the public. Please see the CHNA and CHIP reports for Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center and Lourdes Medical Center of Burlington County below.

Lourdes Health System completed the needs assessment in conjunction with all of the other acute care hospitals in the Lourdes Health System service area.  The assessment revealed a number of overlapping health issues for residents living in the Lourdes Health System service areas of Burlington, Camden, and Gloucester counties.  The Community Health Improvement Plan covers the period from 2014-2016.  Each partner in the Collaborative has an organization-specific implementation plan.  Yet, all of the partners recognize that in order to support the improved health of the population, the Collaborative needs to continue to work together to identify synergies.
