Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center Named One of the Nation’s 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals by Truven Health Analytics
Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center this week was named one of the nation’s 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals® by Truven Health Analytics.
The Truven Health 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals® study uses public data sources and peer-reviewed methodologies to review outcomes, clinical processes and efficiency for two of the most common cardiac conditions, heart attack and heart failure, and two of the most common interventions, percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) and coronary artery bypass graft (CABG).
Truven evaluates performance in key performance areas: risk-adjusted mortality, risk-adjusted complications, core measures (a group of measures that assess process of care), percentage of coronary bypass patients with internal mammary artery use, 30-day mortality rates, 30-day readmission rates, severity-adjusted average length of stay and wage- and severity-adjusted average cost. The study, it its 16th year, has been conducted annually since 1999.
“This is a wonderful achievement and recognition of the high quality, advanced care provided by our cardiac team,” said Lourdes Health System President and CEO Alexander J. Hatala.
Our Lady of Lourdes is the only hospital in New Jersey to receive this honor, and places it in the company of hospitals such as the Mayo Clinic and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. The winning hospitals were announced in the November 10 edition of Modern Healthcare magazine.
Last month, Healthgrades named Our Lady of Lourdes one of America’s 50 Best Hospitals for Cardiac Surgery and recipient of the Cardiac Care Excellence Award. Lourdes also was rated five stars for coronary bypass surgery, valve surgery, treatment of heart attack and treatment of heart failure, among others.
“I am extremely proud of the hard work and dedication of our cardiologists, surgeons, and clinical staff who provide outstanding care every day,” said Reginald Blaber, MD, Executive Director of the Lourdes Cardiovascular Institute and Vice President of Cardiac Services. “These honors from Healthgrades and Truven are yet another indication that Lourdes is truly a destination hospital for the highest quality cardiovascular care.”
For its study, Truven Health Analytics researchers analyzed 2012 and 2013 Medicare Provider Analysis and Review (MedPAR) data, 2013 Medicare cost reports, and 2014 Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Hospital Compare data.
Organizations do not apply or pay Truven for this honor or pay to promote their award. Award-winning hospitals and health systems prove that better care is possible and provide an example for other organizations to follow across the industry.
