Ely M. Sebastian, M.D. Joins Center for Organ Transplantation at Lourdes

Ely M. Sebastian, M.D., recently joined the Center for Organ Transplantation at Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center. Dr. Sebastian specializes in liver, kidney and pancreas transplantation.
Prior to his appointment at Lourdes, Dr. Sebastian served as Clinical Fellow Transplant Surgeon at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) - Thomas Starzl Transplantation Institute in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Dr. Sebastian completed his postdoctoral training in the Department of General Surgery and Critical Care at UPMC and later went on to serve as postdoctoral associate for the Department of Pharmacology, also at UPMC.
"Dr. Sebastian brings an extensive amount of national and international experience and training to our institution," says Dr. Alan R. Pope, chief medical officer at Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center. "This combined with his knowledge and skills in multi-organ transplantation will enhance the array of transplant services offered at Lourdes."
Dr. Sebastian completed a fellowship at the Minimally Invasive Surgery Center at UPMC followed by an additional rotation at the Thomas E. Starzl Transplantation Institute. He performed a surgical residency at the G. Almenara I. Hospital at the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos in Lima, Peru and an internship in medicine at Huancayo Essalud Hospital in Junin, Peru. Dr. Sebastian earned both his medical degree and bachelor's degree from the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos.
Dr. Sebastian is a member of the American Society for Bone and Mineral Research. He has been cited in numerous peer-reviewed publications and has presented his research at medical conferences around the world. A native of Peru, Dr. Sebastian is fluent in both English and Spanish.
